Albany Firebirds 2027 In-Season Internship – Photography
Semester: Spring 2027 (January – August)
Location: MVP Arena, 51 S Pearl St, Albany, NY
Local Requirement: Must be local to the 518 area
Overview
The Albany Firebirds are seeking a creative, motivated, and passionate Photography Intern for the 2027 season. This hands-on opportunity provides experience within a professional football organization and is ideal for students or recent graduates looking to build a portfolio in sports photography, digital content, and visual storytelling.
The Photography Intern will work closely with the Media and Partnership Activation teams to capture photography for social media, sponsorships, marketing campaigns, promotional materials, game-day coverage, and other team initiatives.
All applications will be kept on file until the start of the internship program for which candidates apply.
Past Firebirds interns have gone on to work with or interview with organizations including the NFL, NHL, NBA G League, PLL, US Open, NLL, AHL, TBL, Frontier League, MiLB, MLB, Cosmic Sports, Savannah Bananas, and more.
Position Responsibilities
- Capture photography during games, practices, community events, and team functions.
- Photograph players, coaches, fans, game action, promotions, and behind-the-scenes moments.
- Capture photography for sponsorship proof of performance and Partnership Activation.
- Edit and prepare photos for social media, web, marketing, print, and promotional use.
- Assist with player headshots, portraits, team photography, and special projects.
- Organize and maintain digital photo libraries.
- Support the Media team with photography needs and game-day content.
- Work in-office approximately two days per week for content planning, game preparation, meetings, and practice coverage.
- Collaborate with staff to maintain the Firebirds brand and visual identity.
- Other duties as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience in sports, event, portrait, or digital photography.
- A portfolio demonstrating strong photography and visual storytelling.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop and Lightroom.
- Strong understanding of composition, lighting, color, and editing.
- Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Willingness to learn and collaborate.
- Knowledge of football and professional sports preferred.
Internship Requirements
- Must be 18+ and local to the 518 area.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and home games.
- Availability for designated office hours, practices, and events.
- Personal professional camera equipment and laptop preferred but not required.
- Background check required.
