Week 10 Game Recap: Michigan Arsenal vs Albany Firebirds


The Michigan Arsenal defeated the Firebirds in Albany by the score of 57-39.  This will go down as the first loss of the season for the Firebirds and will move them to 8-1 on the season.  For Michigan, this win keeps them in the playoff hunt and moves them to 3-6.


Firebirds Tackle Cancer Night


Week 10 was a special one for Albany as it was Firebirds Tackle Cancer Night.  Before the game, fans could write on signs for who or what they were fighting for.  There was also a special halftime ceremony where there was a light show and people got the chance to hold up their signs that they had made for the game.


First Half


    Michigan got off to a fast start to the game with a deuce on the opening kickoff.  They were able to stop Albany on fourth down before taking the ball and going down the field to make and scoring a touchdown to grow the lead.  Albany was able to stick around for the first half with a couple touchdowns from Darien Townsend.


    At half, Albany was down by the score of 31-21 after a few attempted Hail Mary’s were unsuccessful for them.  Michigan was moving the ball well in the first half with a couple of deep balls that quarterback Malik Henry was able to connect on. 



Second Half


    Albany and MIchigan were going back and forth to start the second half and Albany was slowly starting to gain some momentum.  With the score at 38-28, Albany kicked off to Michigan where the returner Vance Bennett was able to break free from everybody and take it all the way back for a touchdown to break the game back open.


    The Firebirds kept trying to fight back into the game but it was too little too late.  Albany was able to score another touchdown before getting a kick return from receiver Agiye Hall in the last minute to make the score 57-39. 

    

Looking Forward


    Albany will go on the road for a few tough matchups between a few of the league's best teams.  In week 11, the Firebirds will take on the 7-1 Kats.  This will be a huge game for Albany as they look to keep control of the number one seed in the standings.  After that they go to Kentucky to face the 7-2 Barrels who they defeated in Albany earlier this season.
