Firebirds Announce Return of 2025 AF1 MVP Sam Castronova Ahead of Undefeated Week 5 Home Game

The Albany Firebirds are proud to announce the return of 2025 AF1 MVP quarterback Sam Castronova ahead of their Week 5 home matchup against Kentucky, adding a proven leader and championship caliber presence back to the roster.
Castronova was re signed by the Firebirds in January and participated in training camp before signing with the Houston Gamblers of the United Football League (UFL) prior to the home opener. Following his time in Texas, he is now back in Albany and ready to compete for another Arena Crown Championship.
One of the most accomplished quarterbacks in arena football, Castronova is coming off a historic 2025 season in which he was named AF1 MVP while leading the Firebirds to a perfect undefeated record and an Arena Crown Championship. His performance throughout the season firmly established him as one of the premier players in the league.
Castronova’s history in Albany also includes a championship run in 2022 with the Albany Empire, further reinforcing his track record of success in the Capital Region.
The Firebirds currently sit at 4-0 to start the 2026 season and will battle the also undefeated Kentucky Barrels this Saturday night at 7 00 PM at MVP Arena.
This matchup will also serve as 2025 Championship Banner Reveal Night as the organization celebrates last season’s title with a ceremony honoring the undefeated championship run. In addition, the night will feature Darkness Rises, a special theme game where the Firebirds will take the field in all black uniforms, with fans encouraged to wear all black in support of the team.
His return comes at a key point in the season as the Firebirds prepare for a pivotal stretch. Known for his leadership, decision making, and ability to execute in high pressure situations, Castronova brings both experience and stability to the offense.
With a former MVP and champion back under center, the Firebirds strengthen their position heading into Week 5 as they continue their pursuit of another title.
