Albany Firebirds Announce Re-Signing of Quarterback Josh Kulka
Albany, N.Y. — Tuesday, September 15 — The Arena Football One re-signing period has officially begun, and the Albany Firebirds are proud to announce our first re-signing of the new year. Quarterback Josh Kulka has officially re-signed for the 2027 season and is ready to bring another Arena Crown Championship back to the Capital Region.
Kulka, a rookie in 2026, started the Firebirds season replacing quarterback Sam Castronova, who was called up and signed to the United Football League in early April. Kulka started the year in electric fashion, leading the Firebirds to four straight wins while averaging at least six touchdowns and over 200 yards in his first four games. As Castronova returned in May, Kulka would serve as the backup for the majority of the AF1 season until making his next start. He finished the AF1 regular season with wins over Beaumont and a loss to Nashville, averaging 261.5 yards and 6.5 touchdowns across those two games. Kulka finished the regular season with a 5-1 record as the starting quarterback.
“Signing Kulka back was a priority. He handled the adversity of last season with professional class. He played at a high level and still has a huge ceiling. We are truly excited to see the development in 2027,” said Damon Ware, Head Coach and General Manager of the Albany Firebirds.
The Albany Firebirds look forward to Kulka’s return in 2027 and competing for another Arena Crown Championship. We can’t wait to see what he can do in Year 2.
