Offseason Recap #1

     The offseason is starting to heat up in the AF1!  Players are starting to sign to teams and the Firebirds are looking to build a team with championship aspirations again. Albany has made five signings and they are all returning members of last year's team.

KULKAMANIA is Back

     Quarterback Joshua Kulka has re-signed with the Albany Firebirds after an impressive year one with the Firebirds.  Kulka was named week one starter for the 2026 season and got the Firebirds off to a hot start against the Minnesota Monsters.  He went on to start the next couple of games and would also start some games at the end of the season for Albany.  Kulka overall in 2026 had 1501 yards and 38 touchdowns, which was good for fourth most in the entire league.  This is a huge signing for the Firebirds as Kulka will look to take the team back to the Arena Crown Championship for the third straight season.

Bringing Back Playmakers

     Coach Ware has also started the offseason by retaining three of the wide receivers that helped take the Firebirds to the Championship last year.  First the team signed Agiye Hall.  Hall made amazing play after amazing play every week for the team.  Hall was a big X factor for the team especially when players went down with injuries throughout the season.  Across his six regular season games, he had 433 yards and six touchdowns including an incredible debut against the Stealth where he had three touchdown receptions.  

     Tyrese Chambers was also brought back after an impressive season with the Firebirds.  He totalled 702 yards and had 16 touchdowns including a huge game against Nashville at the end of the regular season including 10 receptions, 114 yards, and three touchdowns.  Chambers was a star at FIU in college totalling 1.074 yards and nine touchdowns in 2021 and had another good year in 2022 before transferring to Maryland in 2023.  Chambers with his college performance was able to earn himself a rookie camp invite with the Cleveland Browns.  Chambers will look to continue his success that he had this past season in Albany.

     Cameron Alves was the third wide receiver that was brought back to Albany so far this offseason.  Alves was able to contribute to the team during the middle of the season with a big standout game against the Kats on the road.  Alves racked up seven receptions for 94 yards and two touchdowns to help Albany.  Alves will look to continue to step up in big games for Albany going into the 2027 season.

Building the Trenches

     Albany has had one more signing so far this offseason being defensive lineman Khris Walton.  Walton was a sparkplug for the defense when they needed one through some of the injuries in season.  He joined the team and made his debut against the Stealth and made an instant impact with a sack in that game.  Walton also had another sack in the regular season and had a sack in the Arena Crown game.  This is a big start up front for the Firebirds as Walton brings energy and experience to the team for the upcoming season.

Week 1

This is a strong start to the offseason for Albany.  Bringing back Kulka is a huge addition and he will look to lead the team back to the Arena Crown.  The additions of Hall, Chambers, and Alves also bring experience back and there will already be chemistry between quarterback and receiver for next season.  Khris Walton brings energy on defense and is a returning member of one of the strongest units in all of AF1.  This is just the start of a big offseason for the Firebirds as they build up the team for the 2027 season.
