Firebirds Open Season with Big Win Over Previously Unbeaten Southwest Kansas Storm

The Albany Firebirds kicked off their Arena Football One (AF1) season with a strong 78-20 win over the previously undefeated Southwest Kansas Storm at MVP Arena. Albany set the tone early and kept the pressure on throughout the game.

Quarterback Sam Castronova led the way, throwing for 220 yards and seven touchdowns while adding another score on the ground. Wide receiver Duane Brown made an impact in his first game with the team, catching four touchdown passes.

The Firebirds’ defense played a big role, grabbing three interceptions—two of which were returned for touchdowns—and recording four sacks. Kicker Henry Nell also got the scoring started with a deuce on the opening kickoff.

With this win, Albany starts the season on the right foot and now looks ahead to their next game on March 29 against the Nashville Kats.
