Firebirds Extend Historic Winning Streak with Thrilling 60-57 Road Victory Over Michigan
The Albany Firebirds continued their historic run on Saturday night, surviving a fierce challenge from the Michigan Arsenal to earn a dramatic 60-57 victory in Saginaw, Michigan.
With the win, Albany improved to 5-0 on the 2026 season and extended its franchise-record winning streak to 20 consecutive games, further solidifying its status as the premier team in Arena Football One.
Castronova Earns Second Straight MVP Honor
Quarterback Sam Castronova delivered another spectacular performance, accounting for nine total touchdowns and guiding the Firebirds offense in one of the most exciting games of the season. His outstanding effort earned him AF1 Week 5 Most Valuable Player honors, marking the second consecutive week he has received the league's top individual award.
Castronova once again showcased the balance and explosiveness of Albany's offense, spreading the ball to a deep group of playmakers. Castronova ended the week 29-39 for 316 yards and 9 touchdowns
Brown and Scott Power the Passing Attack
Wide receivers Duane Brown and Isiah Scott were nearly unstoppable, combining for 18 receptions, 227 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns.
Team captain Darien Townsend added eight catches and a touchdown, continuing to provide veteran leadership and reliable production in key moments.
Defense Comes Up with Timely Plays
Defensively, team captain Markus Smith continued his standout season by recording an interception for the second straight game. Smith's turnover proved critical in a tightly contested matchup that remained within one score throughout all four quarters.
Albany's defense bent but did not break, making just enough plays to preserve the victory in one of the toughest road tests of the season.

Arsenal Push Firebirds to the Limit
Michigan battled valiantly behind quarterback Malik Henry, who completed 21 of 36 passes for 210 yards and seven touchdowns.
His favorite target, Daniel Williams III, turned in a remarkable performance with 10 receptions for 105 yards and six touchdowns. Williams was recognized as AF1 Week 5 Offensive Player of the Week.
The Arsenal, now 1-5 on the season, have dropped their last two contests by a combined six points.
Well-Earned Bye Week Ahead
The Firebirds will enjoy a much-needed bye in Week 6 before returning to MVP Arena for a three-game homestand.
Albany resumes action on Saturday, May 30, at 7:00 p.m. when it hosts the Oceanside Bombers. Oceanside enters the matchup with a 1-4 record.
